Aleksandr Golovin’s mother confirms Chelsea talks

The mother of CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin has today confirmed that Premier League giants Chelsea are currently locked in negotiations over her son’s signature. Golovin, a versatile 22-year-old who can play as any of an orthodox central midfielder, attacking midfielder or even on the wing, came up through the youth ranks of CSKA Moscow, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup in 2014.

After struggling for game-time as a teen, Golovin went on to establish himself as a regular in the starting XI of Viktor Goncharenko during the 2016/17 campaign, with the gifted midfielder’s performances this past season (particularly versus Arsenal in the Europa League) having caught the attention of a number of European heavyweights.

Arsenal and Juventus were the two clubs most persistently-touted as a potential destination for Golovin leading into the summer transfer market, with the latter having even engaged in lengthy negotiations with CSKA. However, the Bianconeri refused to meet the rumoured 25 million Euro valuation of the capital outfit, with Golovin’s price-tag having since been pushed even higher by his impressive performances at the World Cup with Russia.

Chelsea set for HUGE announcement in the next 24 hours

Maurizzio Sarri is expected to fly into London today to seal his appointment as Chelsea’s new boss.

The former Napoli manager is due to sign a two-year deal, with an option for a third season.

Sarri, 59, has told the Blues he wants to live in Cobham, Surrey, close to the club’s training ground.

He has earned a reputation as a workaholic coach.

Sarri’s appointment spells the end of Antonio Conte’s two-year reign as boss.

Starsport revealed on Friday, the Blues are trying to claw back a large chunk of Conte’s £9m pay-off by claiming his mismanagement of Diego Costa’s transfer last summer led to the Spain striker’s price being devalued

Jose mourinho : everything golovin does is right

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho didn’t shy away from praising Russian star Aleksandr Golovin as reports continue to surface on a potential transfer.
The Portuguese manager is said to be interested in the midfielder following his performances for his nation at the World Cup and is keen to add him to the squad.
Mourinho has already signed Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant but it’s the former’s signing that makes the links with Golovin suspicious.
With the Brazilian a part of the United team and Marouane Fellaini renewing his contract, there doesn’t appear to be any room for the CSKA Moscow man.
Nonetheless, what the former Real Madrid boss said wouldn’t have helped the rumours and should Aleksandr be listening, he’ll certainly be flattered.
According to Manchester Evening News, Jose said to Russia Today: “If they [Russian kids] look for example to Golovin, if they look to him, the first touch, the first control, the speed of the pass, always correct.”
Golovin has been central to his country’s success at the World Cup so far, helping them reach the quarter finals of the competition where they will come up against an impressive Croatian side.
It could be that once the tournament is over Mourinho will step up his interest in the attacking midfielder but as of now there’s no official news on whether the interest is real or not.

Neymar’s team-mate ‘likes’ controversial tweet suggesting Eden Hazard is worth double world record fee paid for Brazilian

Neymar ‘s Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Thomas Meunier has liked a tweet suggesting his compatriot Eden Hazard is worth double the €222m (£200m) paid for him last summer by the French club.
Meunier performed excellently directly against the world’s most expensive player as Belgium eliminated Brazil in the World Cup quarter-finals.
In the battle of No.10s, it was Chelsea star Hazard who came out on top with former Belgium international Leo Van der Elst praising his compatriot.
“If Neymar is worth €222m, then Hazard is worth double,” he told Belgian broadcaster Sporza. “With respect for the great footballer Neymar is, but at this World Cup he has not shown that he is worth his price tag

Real Madrid warned against selling superstar by former president Ramon Calderon

FORMER Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon has warned the club against selling Cristiano Ronaldo.
Juventus are believed to be closing in on an £88million deal for the Portuguese superstar.
But Madristas are said to be up in arms over his exit, and Calderon hopes current chief Florentino Perez can convince Ronaldo to stay put in order to keep the peace.
He told Tuttomercatoweb: “If Ronaldo were to leave Real Madrid, he’d leave a gap that would be impossible to fill.
“It’s not easy to find a champion who can guarantee over 50 goals a season. Ronaldo has been doing that for nine years and we mustn’t forget it.
“It’s a wide-ranging issue. President Perez has made some great decisions for Real but his problem is he doesn’t understand the right way to treat the inheritance left by others.
“It happened with the departures of Iker Casillas and Raul, two legends of Madridismo. A conflict was created with players that was never resolved.
“It culminated when Ronaldo realised Florentino didn’t value him the way he should. Ronaldo wanted a batter salary, but that’s only normal for the best employee in a company.
“He was upset when reports said Real were prepared to pay double his salary to Neymar.
“I hope Perez can convince Ronaldo to continue with Real Madrid, as the club, team and fans would be truly grateful.
“Juventus have for a long time earned the right to be considered one of the big clubs in world football.
“That’s why it wouldn’t be strange if Cristiano should choose them. This signing would allow them to further consolidate their superiority in Serie A and give them an extra gear in the Champions League too.
“He also brings this permanent desire to overcome the impossible. I’ve known truly few players who maintain that ambition wit pushing themselves to the max every single day.
“That will allow Ronaldo to continue at his current level for at least another four or five years.”

Russia’s fairytale WCup run ends in tears

The impassioned shouts of “Ros-si-ya” died away on the streets and tears filled the stadium as Russia bowed out of their home World Cup in the cruellest fashion: on penalties.
The men in red exceeded the wildest expectations by coming within a penalty kick and a save against Croatia of making it into the semifinals for the first time since 1966.
They lost the quarterfinal shootout 4-3 after extra-time ended with the sides deadlocked at 2-2 in the Black Sea resort of Sochi.
It was that close – and it all ended just as the nation was starting to believe.
“We leave the tournament with tears in our eyes but our heads held high,” the team tweeted as the stadium emptied of the 45 000 or so who had lost their voices cheering them on.
They had reason to be proud.
Russia were the lowest-ranked team entering the tournament and many in the sceptical media thought they would be lucky to win a game.
They trudged off the pitch after making it to the quarterfinal for the first time in 48 years.
A semifinal was within grasp and the loss stung.
But the Russian team showed heart and won what seemed like the entire nation’s gratitude.
“The champions of our hearts,” the popular Sport Express daily said in a headline.
Then it paid them the highest compliment possible by declaring: “Russia knows how to play football.”
EMPTY FEELING
Fans who had been dancing in the streets after a heart-pounding shootout win over 2010 champions Spain in the last 16 last Sunday were gloomy but grateful.
The nation was mourning on Saturday – but also paying its respects.
Chants of “Mo-lod-tsy” – an almost untranslatable word of praise and thanks that roughly means “Good job, guys” – echoed across the dark streets of Moscow and other cities.
“What can I say? It’s a pity we are out of this tournament but I am very proud of my team,” said Muscovite Alexander Khramoichenkov.
“I’m very proud of Russia,” the 34-year-old said.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev called the team’s performance “magnificent” after watching the game from a VIP box with Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic.
He came down into the players’ locker room and suggested that Russian football would never be its disappointing old self again.
“We will simply have a different type of football after this,” he said. “I am absolutely certain of this.”
But coach Stanislav Cherchesov – his moustache becoming the unofficial symbol of Russia’s Cinderella waltz through the tournament – seemed visibly distraught.
“I am still not myself yet,” he admitted after listening to a press conference question and then being unable to say a word.
Midfielder Roman Zobnin sounded very similar moments after he walked off the pitch.
“I have no emotions left. I left them all out there,” he said with difficulty.
“I feel empty inside.” For full details please visit https://supersportsconnect.wordpress.com
